In communities across the world, United Ways bring diverse people and resources together to address the most urgent issues their communities face. Through unique partnerships and approaches, United Ways mobilise resources beyond the monies that are pledged through their fundraising efforts. Community partners often include schools, government policy makers, businesses, organised labour, financial institutions, voluntary and neighbourhood associations, community development corporations, and the faith community.
United Ways also have led the non-profit sector in the call for transparent accountability and measurable results. To achieve measurable, lasting change, United Ways identify and build on community strengths and assets, help individuals and groups with specific community interests, find ways to contribute their time and talents, support direct-service programmes and community-change efforts. Because of the unique conditions in diverse communities, the issues United Ways address are determined locally.
