Volunteer programming

Volunteerism is a theme woven through all of United Way Ghana's activities and strategies. We see local voluntary involvement as an indispensable part of a community's response to the need of its less privileged. UWG is engaging the public and private sector, corporate leaders, community activists, and concerned individuals through volunteer opportunities. We believe that a volunteer encounter provides a simple way to introduce a concept that develops into a deeper individual commitment to participating in a community's efforts to meet the needs of its vulnerable and less privileged. With a solid strategy, good management, and thoughtful volunteer cultivation, UWG will harness the impact that countless numbers of ordinary citizens can make on the development of their own communities when they are mobilized and properly supported.

Volunteer management

UWG is already in consultation with a database designer to develop a database to manage volunteer information. The database will detail contact information, location, interests, and available dates, past volunteering history, Each volunteer will be asked to submit this data at registration and will be given the opportunity to update if and when necessary.

Benefits to individual include:

  • Opportunity to advance their career opportunities in multiple areas of community development work
  • A chance to explore and strengthen their skills base

Benefits to charity include:

  • Access to expertise in specific areas essential to the charity's development
  • Opportunities to expand its skills repertoire

How much does it cost?
For the volunteers - nothing but a little of their time and their skills. However, this programme gives corporate organisations an opportunity to support the work of these individual volunteers whose contribution in Ghana will support the following community investment programmes in: education, HIV/AIDs and general health, the elderly and resource mobilisation.
