Yes United Way Ghana is a registered NGO, but you could describe it as an NGOs NGO. United Way seldom works with the final end beneficiary. In order to ensure our interventions are addressing a felt need in each community we work through community based organizations to address community issues in health, education and income generation.
»Who is United Way Ghana’s primary target group?
United Way Ghana targets marginalized and under-served communities. We work through community based organizations to define felt needs at the community level; and with resources from community stakeholders such as representatives of the corporate and public sector we mobilize sweat equity from volunteers to develop solutions.
»What is Day of Caring?
United Way Ghana’s (UWG) Day of Caring is a unique volunteer event scheduled on or around Valentine’s Day each year with the aim of redirecting the spirit of love and compassion inherent in the Valentine's Day tradition toward community building activities. We encourage the ordinary Ghanaian to extend the love and care he or she would afford to loved ones, family, and friends. UWG's Day of Caring symbolizes the constructive power of national unity and also promotes the Ghanaian commitment to support disenfranchised communities through volunteering, donating money, and providing aid.
“Day of Caring is an unforgettable, hands-on experience. Individuals and organization’s have the opportunity to actively improve the community while spending quality time with co-workers. It is also a great way to see your donations to the Workplace Giving Campaign at work.” said Albert Wilson, (Vice President of UWG)
»How does Day of Caring work?
Corporate organizations, institutions, and individuals indicate their interest in participating in Day of Caring. United Way Ghana links works with lead volunteers and selected charities to design a day long project that will result in a meaningful community change. UWG then links corporate stakeholders, charities and volunteers to renovate school buildings in impoverished areas of Ghana such as Nima; supplied children with school uniforms and books; and support the healthcare and educational needs of HIV/AIDS orphans in the Manya Krobo district.
»Why get involved?
