The Country-Side Orphanage was started in 1981 by Madam Emma Boafo Yeboah in a rented a house where she lived with 12 children. Today, the orphanage serves about 150 children. In a recent site visit to the orphanage the obvious affection and care between the children and the caregivers could not conceal that the buildings were in disrepair and badly needed renovation and there was a need for new equipment and supplies. The children are sleeping on old mats on the floor and there has been limited maintenance to the overall grounds. Beyond the conditions of the physical buildings, it is also clear that the children desire more interaction with loving people who will spend some time with them – sharing love and counsel.  The orphanage relies heavily on donations from individuals and organisations.
